This years Northeastern
US was a very well run event with lifters showing up from New York, Vermont,
New Hampshire, and Connecticut. A very
special thanks to the spotters, loaders, and referees who did an outstanding
job and James Matta for providing an excellent host facility. |
|
|
| Some
outstanding lifts were registered in both the RAW and gear assisted
categories. |
|
|
| In
the full power event and young junior lifter Josh Langevin took the Raw Best
Lifter award with some incredible lifts at 178 bodyweight performing a 405
squat, 325 bench press and 555 deadlift.
This young man is incredibly strong and should go a long way in the
sport. |
|
|
| Cory
Wasniewski, another junior lifter took the overall best lifter title with a
625 squat, 415 bench press, and 705 meet deadlift. He took a 4th attempt to set a Junior world
record with 725. Cory was in the 242
lb. Class and weighed in at 232.6. |
|
|
| The
ladies competing all set state records.
49 year old Kathleen Bonilla set Vermont records with a 100 pound
bench press and 185 lb. deadlift, Tina Jones got a nice 210 lb. bench press
and did a record 325 deadlift, and set Vermont and American submaster bench
press records with a 255 pound bench press. |
|
|
| In
the push-pull event James Matta took the overall best lifter title at a
bodyweight of 196 with a bench press of 510 and deadlift of 520. |
|
|
| Another
outstanding Junior lifter was Luke Quarters from New York. Luke weighed in at
176 and benched 425 pounds at 20 years of age! |
|
|
| In
the Bench Press Ron Daley of New York set a master WPA World record and APA
American record in the Masters 198 40-44 category with a huge 600 lift at 195
bodyweight! Way to go Ron! |
|
|
| In
the deadlift only event Mike Ahearn pulled a huge 710 at 233 bodyweight and
won best lifter honors in that event. |
|
|
| This
was one supercharged contest. The
background music kept everybody pumped and all the lifters were very
supportive of each other. The
spectators were quite vocal which is very important when you are going for
some big lifts. |
|
|
| Special
designed executioner sculpters by artist Robert Stagemeyer were presented to
all lifters in the competition.
Several more APA events are in the works for Vermont, Maine, New
Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. Guaranteed the northeast will be hopping
with APA activity during the upcoming year. |
